Description
Rated as Pollstar Magazine's Best Major Outdoor Venue, the Hollywood Bowl is the largest natural outdoor amphitheater in the United States. The Bowl is a friendly sociable place where southern Californians gather to picnic and enjoy outstanding music under the stars. Food and beverages may be purchased at the Bowl, and picnic dinners are encouraged.

The Hollywood Bowl is the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, which since its founding in 1919, has been hailed as Southern California's leading performing arts institution. Today, under the dynamic leadership of Esa-Pekka Salonen, who became the orchestra's tenth music director in 1992, the Philharmonic is recognized as one of the world's outstanding orchestras. Both at home and abroad it has, as Berliner Zeitung stated, “...proved that it belongs among the best in the United States.”

Boris Godunov (opera, 1868-72), was composed by Modest Mussorgsky, who led a turbulent life - his musical training was haphazard, he moved around frequently, and he left some of his most important works unfinished when he died from an infection brought on by alcoholism at the age of 42. As a member of the Mighty Five, a group of composers devoted to pioneering a Russian musical voice, Mussorgsky belongs among the musical nationalists of the late 19th century. He especially excelled as a composer of dramatic music for the voice, as his operas and songs confirm.

Dining under the stars has always been part of the Hollywood Bowl experience. Concert-goers are invited to bring dinner, snacks, wine and/or drinks into the Hollywood Bowl complex to eat at one of the picnic tables in the area, or at your seat. Boxed dinners will be for sale at the Marriott as you load the buses. In addition, a variety of refreshments, including hot dogs, enchiladas, chicken sandwiches, salads, snacks, soft drinks, beer, champagne, and wines, are available at concession stands located throughout the Bowl.

Since the Hollywood bowl is a located in the Los Angeles hillside, there are some moderate to steep inclines throughout the area. Electric carts, elevators and escalators are available to assist in taking you to your seat at the Hollywood Bowl. Handicap accessible seating is available upon advanced request only.
